What on earth did we do before the host of review sites that have sprung up over the last few years? It used to be a case of pot luck or trial and error to find Paris or Amsterdam places to stay. Which hotel does not clean up after previous guests, which guest house serves the worst breakfast, and which 5-star accommodation should be avoided like the plague.

If you are planning the trip of a lifetime or even a short business trip this sort of impartial information can be invaluable as long as you learn how to sift through the information and not to take everything at face value. After all one man's meat is another man's poison and the hotels under review certainly cannot please everyone.

I have spent a lot of time on review sites one way or another and it is incredible how reviews of a particular hotel vary from one person to another. In almost every case some hate it whilst for others it is the best hotel they have ever stayed in. As long as you take the information with a bit of salt, these sites can help you no end!
